Understanding the Short Dyslexia Screening
A gentle, supportive first step in understanding your child’s learning
A dyslexia screening provides an initial indication of whether your child’s difficulties may be linked to dyslexia, and whether further assessment might be helpful. It offers a supportive snapshot of your child’s strengths and areas for development, particularly in reading, spelling, and phonological processing.
Not sure if your child needs a full assessment?
A screening can provide clarity — without committing to anything further.
What does it involve?
The screening includes activities that explore how your child processes sounds and develops literacy skills. This may include:
-
Phonological awareness
-
Reading and fluency
-
Spelling and writing
-
These activities help build a clear picture of how your child is learning and where support may be helpful.
When is a Screener helpful?
A screener can be helpful if:
-
Your child’s literacy progress feels slower than expected
-
They are trying hard but still finding things difficult
-
Their confidence is beginning to dip
-
You’re unsure whether a full assessment is needed
What Happens After?
Following the session, you will receive a clear, easy-to-understand summary of the findings and initial indications.
While this is not a diagnosis, it provides helpful guidance on your child’s learning profile and whether further assessment may be beneficial.
We will talk through the results together and discuss practical next steps — whether that’s support at home, in school, or considering a full diagnostic assessment.
Cost
The cost of a dyslexia screening is £150.
If a full diagnostic assessment is recommended and booked within three months, this fee will be deducted from the overall assessment cost.
